social media module

Divi’s Social Media module allows you to create links based on icons that point to your online social profiles, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. These icons are integrated into the theme, in Divi’s style using its stylish icons, which makes them preferable to using third-party plugins. You can add links to multiple social profiles in each module, and you can add the module anywhere on the page.

How to add a social media module to your page

Before you can add a social media module to your page, you must first jump into Divi Builder. Once the Divi theme is installed on your website, you will notice a Use Divi Builder button above the post editor every time you create a new page. Click on this button to activate Divi Builder and access all the Divi Builder modules. Then click on the Use Visual Builder button to launch the builder in visual mode. You can also click the Use Visual Builder button when browsing your foreground website if you are logged into your WordPress dashboard.

Once you have entered Visual Builder, you can click the gray plus button to add a new module to your page. New modules can only be added inside rows. If you are starting a new page, remember to add a row to your page first.

Locate the social media module in the list of modules and click on it to add it to your page. The list of modules is searchable, which means you can also type the word “Follow us on social media” and then click “enter” to find and automatically add the social media module! Once the module is added, you will be greeted by the module options list. These options are separated into three main groups: Content, Design, and Advanced.

Example use case: Adding corresponding social media icons to a contact page

A website’s contact page is the perfect place to showcase your social profiles online. This gives more possibilities for users to stay connected and promote your blog or business.

Using the visual builder, add a new regular section with a row full width of one column. Insert a social media module in your column.

In the Content tab of the module settings, click on the “Add a new element” button to add a new social network to your module. Under specific social network settings, update the following:

Content Options

Social network:
Facebook account URL: [enter the URL of your Facebook account]

Design options

Icon Color: # d94b6a (assorted color)

Then duplicate this social network to add four more networks (Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, and Instagram). Since you duplicated the network, the color of the custom icon has been transferred. So you just need to update each network URL and account.

Now you have social media icons that match the design of the contact page.

Social media content options

In the content tab, you will find all the content elements of the module, such as text, images, and icons. Everything that controls what appears in your module will always be found in this tab.

Add a new object

This is where you add new networks to your module. By clicking on “add a new element”, you will open a whole new window of options specific to your new network (under the tabs “Content”, “Design” and “Advanced”). See below for individual social media network settings.

After adding your first network, you will see a gray bar appear with your network title displayed as a label. The gray bar also has three buttons allowing you to edit, duplicate or delete the network.

Link form

Here you can choose the shape of your social media icons as either a rounded rectangle or a circle.

Url opens

Choose to open your network URL in a new tab or the same window.

Follow button

Here you can choose whether or not to include the next button next to the icon.

Admin Label

This will change the module label in the constructor for easy identification. When you use the WireFrame view in Visual Builder, these labels appear in the module block of the Divi Builder interface.

Social media design options

In the Design tab, you will find all the styling options for the module, such as fonts, colors, sizing, and spacing. This is the tab that you will use to change the appearance of your module. Each Divi module has a long list of design settings that you can use to change the look.

For this module, the design options consist of a single element – Text Color.

Text color

Here you can choose whether your text should be light or dark. If you are working on a dark background, your text should be light. If your background is light, your text should be dark.

Advanced social media options

On the advanced tab, you’ll find options that more experienced web designers might find useful, such as custom CSS and HTML attributes. Here you can apply custom CSS to any of the module’s many elements. You can also apply custom CSS classes and IDs to the module, which can be used to customize the module in your child theme’s style.css file.

CSS ID

Enter an optional CSS ID to use for this module. An ID can be used to create a custom CSS style or to link to particular sections of your page.

CSS class

Enter the optional CSS classes to use for this module. A CSS class can be used to create custom CSS styling. You can add multiple classes, separated by a space. These classes can be used in your Divi child theme or in the custom CSS stylesheet that you add to your page or website using the theme options Divi or the settings on the Divi Builder page.

Custom CSS

Custom CSS can also be applied to the module and any of the module’s internals. In the Custom CSS section, you will find a text field where you can add custom CSS style sheets directly to each element. CSS entries in these settings are already wrapped in style tags. So just enter the CSS rules separated by semicolons.

Visibility

This option allows you to control the devices on which your module appears. You can choose to deactivate your module on tablets, smartphones, or desktops individually. This is useful if you want to use different mods on different devices, or if you want to simplify the mobile design by eliminating certain elements from the page.
