During the first quarter of 2022, the Google Play Store recorded 28.3 billion downloads. Not surprisingly, TikTok was the most downloaded title among all cell phone users in the world . This is what a new report from SensorTower points out, which analyzes the smartphone application market.
Google has been introducing changes to the Play Store to ensure more privacy and security for users, including a section that provides details about data collected by apps .
Adding up the data from the Play Store and App Store, TikTok recorded no less than 3.5 billion downloads during the first quarter of 2022. Instagram (2nd), Facebook (3rd) and WhatsApp (4th), all belonging to Meta, occupy the next three positions in the list of most downloaded apps.
Telegram ranks fifth. However, if we focus on Android, TikTok drops to the third position. Among users of the Google operating system, Instagram and Facebook continue to be the most popular apps in terms of downloads.
It is worth mentioning that Google lost its space as the main developer in the Play and App Store for the first time since 2020. This is because the Meta apps, especially thanks to the numbers registered in the Play Store, had more downloads than the apps owned by Google.
The main category of downloads remains games. There was a 2.1% growth in the Play Store and mobile games were downloaded 12.03 billion times in the first quarter of this year. The most popular titles were Garena Free Fire, Subway Surfers and Merge Master.
