CRPF full form: CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force in its entire form. In Hindi, CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force. It is India’s largest paramilitary force and the Central Armed Police Force. The CRPF is part of the Indian government’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Its major objective is to help state and union territory administrations maintain peace and order in their respective areas. The company’s headquarters are in New Delhi. The Government of India founded the CRPR Academy to teach young people interested in joining the CRPF.


  • The CRPF gets its name from the CRP (Crown Representative’s Police), which was founded on July 27, 1939, to protect British citizens living in India’s sensitive states.
  • The CRP was renamed the CRPF in 1949, according to the CRPF Act.
  • A small CRPF patrol unit was attacked by Chinese soldiers on October 21, 1959, and ten out of twenty CRPF personnel gave their lives for the country. Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 to commemorate these warriors’ sacrifices.
  • Most state police battalions were integrated with the CRPF in the 1960s.
  • The CRPF was in charge of guarding the India-Pakistan border until 1965 when the BSF took over.
  • In the 1980s and 1990s, it was instrumental in combating terrorist operations in Punjab and insurgency in Tripura.
  • The CRPF’s first all-women battalion, the 88 (M) Bn, was created in 1986 to deal with the women’s movement.
  • The CRPF killed all five terrorists engaged in the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament. It was named India’s top internal security force the following year.
  • CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), a special CRPF force, was formed in 2008 to combat Naxal operations.
  • On September 2, 2009, 5000 CRPF forces were dispatched to the Nallamalla Forest Range in Andhra Pradesh to look for the then-Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, whose chopper had gone missing. This was India’s largest-ever search effort.

  • Performing rescue and relief activities in the aftermath of natural disasters
