You will then have the opportunity to understand how the reviewed templates work, even before purchasing them.
So today we see the Avada WordPress theme.
Avada: What kind of theme is it?
Avada is the absolute best-selling WordPress theme on Themeforest.
To date, it has 675,000 sales and has received an overall rating of 4.77 out of 5. Not bad, right?
This theme is of the multipurpose type: that is, it has many options and is suitable for the creation of different types of sites, from blogs to eCommerce sites, to multilingual ones.
Avada has a fresh and modern design that is simple and bright.
It can be customized with an infinite number of colors and with a wide choice of fonts.
It is also compatible with most plugins, including:
- WPML (to create multilingual sites );
- BuddyPress and bbPress (to implement social and forum features);
- WooCommerce (to create eCommerce sites and that you can learn how to use in our WordPress course );
- Gravity Forms (to create custom forms and contact forms );
- Easy Digital Downloads (to manage the download of digital files), among many others.
In the next sections, we will see which elements characterize this theme and how to customize it from within your WordPress dashboard.
Avada: theme installation
When you buy the Avada theme for WordPress, you will download a .zip folder containing other folders inside.
To find the folder to upload to your WordPress site, unzip the folder you downloaded and follow this path: Avada_Full_Package / Avada Theme / Avada.zip.
You can drag the Avada.zip folder to your desktop to find it later conveniently.
This is the folder you will need to upload to WordPress from the theme installation section: Appearance> Themes> Add New> Upload Theme.
The other folders inside the .zip package contain extra files, such as the documentation of the plugins included in the theme and the files to translate the site.
Avada Theme WordPress: configuration
Avada installed and activated, it’s time to set up your site.
If you don’t want to start from scratch, you can navigate to Avada> Websites.
This will allow you to configure your site exactly like the Demo visible on Themeforest or to import another of the many templates available.
Choose the one that best suits your business and you can then customize it to your liking.
Let’s now see, one by one, the sections present in Avada> Options.
In fact, this is where you will configure most of the elements of the theme.
Layout – Determines the width of the site and the proportion between the sidebar and main body.
Also choose whether to use a boxed layout (that is, with a fixed width and the background visible) or wide (extended horizontally).
Responsive – Sets the breakpoints, i.e. the widths in pixels for which the transition from desktop to mobile version must take place.
Colors – Choose the main colors of your site. The colors of specific areas will instead have to be set by the other sections.
Heading – Configure the top of the site, that is, the main menu, logo, and everything on it.
Choose the arrangement and color of the elements, and which ones appear or not on your site.
Menu – Here you can configure the appearance and height of your navigation menus.
You can also set the mega menu width and menu appearance on mobile devices.
Logo – Here you can upload different versions of your logo, so that it is perfectly visible on all PCs and devices, including the favicon.
Page Title Bar– If you want the title at the top of each of your pages to be automatically displayed, choose Show bar and contents in the first item of this section.
Here you can also configure the appearance of the title bar and breadcrumbs.
Sliding Bar – The Avada theme offers the ability to add an expandable section on one of the four sides of the page.
The appearance and operation of this section can be configured here.
Footer – Configure the footer of your site in this section.
This is also where you can customize the copyright text.
Sidebars – Using Avada, you can configure a custom sidebar for each type of content.
Inside the Sidebar tab, you will find different sections where you can select the specific sidebar for each type of page
Background – Here you can configure the background visible on the site.
Typography – Here you can choose the main font of the site, upload custom fonts, choose one of the available Google WebFonts and determine text size and line spacing.
Blog – Here you can configure the appearance of your blog and posts.
Portfolio – If the previous section is for setting up the blog, this is for setting up the portfolio.
Social media – In this section you can instead insert links to all your social profiles and set the color and position of the icons.
Presentations – Here you can configure the slideshows, which you will then insert via shortcode.
Elastic presentation – In this section, you set different aspects related to the Elastic Slider (in the next sections I will deepen the use of this feature).
Lightbox– Lightbox is a feature that allows you to view enlarged images.
Here you can configure all aspects related to this element.
Form – In this section you can enter your contact information for Google map and the infobox.
Also, you can configure the captcha element to thwart spam.
Search for – Use these fields to set the layout and appearance of the results on the search page.
Extra – This section includes several very useful options.
For example, it allows you to configure the appearance of images when you scroll over them with the mouse, the number of related posts to view, and more.
Advanced – Here you can add custom scripts, such as Google Analytics, activate CSS animations, set cookies according to the GDPR, and more.
WooCommerce– Do you want to create an eCommerce site? The plugin you need to use is WooCommerce.
In this section, the Avada theme allows you to configure all aspects related to online sales aspects.
Custom CSS – If you want to insert custom CSS codes, you can use the field found in this section.
Your codes will overwrite those contained in the style.css file.
Avia Builder Elements – In this area you can apply default settings for all usable blocks in the Avada builder, such as the margins and colors of a Title block or the number of columns for an image gallery.
Import / Export – Avada has an interesting tool for saving theme settings.
Attention! This is not a site backup! To make a full backup you will need to use a tool like BackUpBuddy.
The Avada theme for WordPress can be customized further by working on the Appearance> Customize options.
Plugins included and recommended for the Avada theme
When you install and activate Avada, you will see a notification message informing you that you need to install some plugins.
Simply, this message warns that the premium plugins indicated are included in the installation package and you can activate them on your site.
The tools indicated as required are necessary for the correct functioning of the theme.
Those recommended are recommended but not essential.
To install them, click on Avada> Plugins / Addons . Mouse over the plugin, the Install button will appear.
LayersSlider WP and Slider Revolution are two premium tools for creating sliders with animations that you can optionally activate.
Avada Builder and Avada Core are essential, as they are used to activate features for the guided creation of pages and posts.
Let’s see how they work in the next section …
Avada Theme: Use Avada Builder
Installed and activated the Fusion Builder plugin, you will see that, when you open the screen for creating a new page or post, the Avada Builder button appears.
Click on it to activate the guided page creation.
A new editor will appear, which we now see together.
You can create a new container, or load a preset page.
Click on Container and first choose the columns to add to your page.
You can have different types of columns, from one that takes up the entire width, to six columns of 1/6 page each, but also combinations of all kinds (for example, 1/4 + 3/4 or 1 / 4 + 1/2 + 1/4).
In this pane, you will also see two other sections.
Library Containers allow you to choose the containers you have saved, while Special allows you to insert a page break.
In this way, links will automatically appear to navigate between pages.
Once you have configured the basic structure of the page, start adding the various elements by clicking on the button to add an element.
As you can see in the image below, there are a lot of them.
You can add text blocks, contact forms, checklists, flip boxes, and many other useful blocks.
You can preview these elements by selecting them within the Design Elements item on the theme demo.
If you plan to use the page template you created several times, I recommend that you save it.
When you are satisfied with how you have arranged columns and elements, click on the Save page layout icon.
Or, you can just save a container or element.
They will appear in the Library section.
To reuse them, go to Library, choose the page, column, or item you want to reuse, and click Upload.
Finally, choose whether to add the element above or below the existing content or to replace it entirely.
Then you just have to update the content.
In the Library> Websites section you will find templates already configured for different types of pages.
You can also preview these on the Avada theme demo.
If you prefer not to use Avada Builder, you can return to the classic WordPress visual / text editor at any time by clicking on Default Editor.
Avada: More options for customizing pages and posts
Below the editor, you will see a section called Avada Page Options.
Here you can configure the more general aspects of the page.
If by any chance you don’t see this section, scroll up the page, click Screen Settings, and check the Avada Page Options item.
In this section, you can configure a custom background, header, footer, title, sidebar, and slider for each page.
These options override the theme-level settings.
Overall, the Avada theme for WordPress offers one of the most complete pages and post-editors I’ve seen in all the themes available on the market.
The options are so many: for this, I suggest you take some time to familiarize yourself with the various features and test them in comparison with the demo.
So far all clear? We’re almost done!

In addition to the premium sliders offered in the installation package, the Avada theme includes two types of sliders:
- Avada Slider: perfect for creating large sliders (even full-screen) and with video integration;
- Elastic Slider: Perfect for creating sliders with animations.
To create sliders using either of these two tools, search for Avada> Sliders and Elastic Slider in the navigation menu of your WordPress Dashboard.
If you have any questions on this subject, I recommend that you visit the Avada support site.
Here you will find documentation, video tutorials, a forum, and you can log in and send your questions directly.
