What is the full form of AM and PM?

AM PM full form: AM: Ante Meridiem, PM: Post Meridiem

AM PM full form: Ante Meridiem (AM) is the complete form of AM, while Post Meridiem (PM) is the full form of PM (PM). AM and PM are Latin words that denote before and afternoon in the 12-hour clock system. These can also be used as AM and PM clocks.

In Hindi, AM stands for “before noon,” which translates to “before noon” in English, and PM stands for “afternoon,” which translates to “afternoon noon” in English.

In a 12-hour time zone, the terms AM and PM are used to distinguish between day and night. They divide the day’s 24 hours into two halves, each of which is 12 hours long. AM is the first 12-hour period, which spans from midnight to noon. PM refers to the second 12-hour period, which runs from noon to midnight.

For example, if I say I’ll arrive at 6.30, I may arrive at 6.30 in the morning or 6.30 in the evening. AM and PM are employed in the 12-hour clock system to eliminate this discrepancy. As a result, 6.30 a.m. is referred to as AM, and 6.30 p.m. is referred to as PM.

History

In Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, the 12-hour clock system was employed. In the tomb of Pharaoh Amenhotep I, an Egyptian sundial for daytime usage and an Egyptian water clock for nighttime use were discovered.

These clocks were made in 1500 BC and separated their respective time of usage into 12 hours. The Romans also utilized the 12-hour clock system, which split daylight into 12 hours and night into four clocks.

Popularity

In many countries, particularly those that were once part of the British Empire, the 12-hour clock is the dominant written and spoken system. For example, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, United States, Canada (except Quebec), Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Malta, and others follow this convention, as do Egypt, Mexico, and the Philippines.

However, in most countries, especially in writing, the 24-hour clock standard method is employed. Some countries in Europe and Latin America utilize a hybrid of the two, preferring the 12-hour system in everyday life but the 24-hour system in writing and official settings.

Conclusion

People who utilize the 12-hour clock system frequently say things like “in the morning,” “in the afternoon,” “in the evening,” and “at night.” The fact that 12 a.m. and 12 p.m. are not technically correct is one of the reasons why they are frequently erroneous. As a result, noon should be used instead of noon, and midnight should be used instead of midnight.

Airlines and insurance companies use 12:01 a.m. to mark the start of an event that begins with the day and 11:59 p.m. to indicate the end of an event to avoid the erroneous paycheck dilemma. Which culminates in a day.
