Tips to know to use Instagram Stories effectively.
1- Create a photo montage on a single Instagram story
For a framed photo montage
Open your story editor, and press the “Layout” option on the left of your screen (see below), choose your grid template (up to 6 images maximum), then add the desired images one by one via the “+” located at the bottom left. Images are added in grid order (left to right).
Once the photos have been added, press the white circle at the bottom middle to complete the photo montage. You can then add text or stickers if needed before uploading.
For a free and more creative photo montage
Another very interesting possibility: you can import the first photo, then select the “Sticker” option at the top of the screen, and press the icon representing an image (as you can see below). This allows you to add one or more other photos. Then you can move or resize these images as you like to make the photo montage you want.
Note: you can save your story as a draft if you want to finalize it later.
2- Publish a story of several successive photos
You can create a story with several photos that follow one another using the “Multicapture” option. You can take up to 8 photos. You can then edit each photo one by one. Once the creation is finalized, all your photos are published in your story simultaneously.
3- Add a filter to your Instagram story
3 options are available to you to add a filter or an effect to your photo:
- open the story editor, choose a filter/effect before taking the photo (at the bottom of the screen, you can scroll through them to test them),
- take the picture, then swipe from left to right or from right to left, these are the “classic” filters,
- press the “effects” option at the top of the screen.
4- Save the Instagram story filters of other users
Do you come across a story from another account and love the filter that was chosen? No need to ask him, you can save this effect, by pressing the name of the filter that appears just below the name of his profile. You can try the filter or save it. You can then find it in your favorite filters when you open the editor to create a new story (at the bottom of your screen).
5- Customize the color of your text
Did you know that you can choose a color for your text that is not suggested by the app? You can press the “eyedropper” icon for example, and choose a color already present in your photo in order to “recall” colors, which can allow a beautiful harmony between your photo and your text.
Note: you can make a long press on the cursor (eyedropper) to move it and select the color you want to extract from your image.
Another tip to know: you can make a long press on the color circle, a color palette is displayed. Just move the cursor to choose the one you want.
6- Apply a colored background to your text
For some fonts, you can add a colored background to your text. Just tap your text to open the editor, tap the middle “A” icon. If you press it a second time, the colors will swap!
7- Enlarge or shrink the text easily
You have just added a text to your story, two ways to resize it: you can enlarge or shrink it by performing a “pinch of fingers” on the text as if you want to “zoom” or “zoom-out” on a photo. Another solution: once in the text editor, you can use the vertical bar on the far left to make the desired adjustment.
8- Animate text in your Instagram stories
If you want your text to be animated, just press the “A” with the two small lines which are located at the top of the screen on the right as you can see in the image below. Each font offers a different animation.
Do not hesitate to test them all!
9- Add an arrow already drawn (and animated)
If you want to add an arrow to highlight an element of your story, you can do so by using the “Sticker” option and entering the word “arrow” in the search bar. Just scroll down to see stickers or GIFs. Another possibility: you can use the “drawing” tool to the right of the “sticker” option at the top of the screen, and choose the dedicated option to create arrows.
10- Freeze stickers or text on an Instagram video story
When making a video story, you can have text or a sticker attached to a specific part of the video.
The procedure is as follows:
- Open the editor to create a new story,
- Add a sticker/text,
- Make a long press on the sticker/text,
- Place your item where you want (you can see its progress using the horizontal bar at the bottom),
- Once your item is correctly placed, press “Pin”.
Note: the operation performed by Instagram to pin the sticker/text on your video may take a little time (different depending on the length and weight of the video).
11- add music to your Instagram stories
You can add music to your stories with the “Music” sticker. Once the music has been added, you can choose the sample you want to stream, by tapping on the album art. Then you just have to drag the horizontal bar at the very bottom of the screen to select the best moment of the song. Additionally, you also have options to display the song lyrics if available. The colored circle at the top of the screen also allows you to change the color of the lyrics.
Note: Certain types of accounts do not have access to this “Music” sticker, but there are solutions to remedy this problem.
